Life in a cup of coffee
A GROUP of graduates, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. The conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and in life. Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups – porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain- looking, some expensive, some exquisite – telling them to help themselves to the coffee.
When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: "If you noticed, all the nice- looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.
What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups and were eyeing each othe's cups. "Now consider this: Life is the coffee and the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life, and do not change the quality of life. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee. So, don''t let the cups drive you... enjoy the coffee instead."

The newest voice of Britain
FORGET Westlife and the Take That. One of the hottest pop stars in Britain right now is 16-year-old Declan Galbraith. While most boys his age are enjoying playing computer games and sports, he is touring the world singing in front of thousands of people.
Next month Galbraith will arrive in China. He will hold a concert on May 24 to perform for his growing army of Chinese fans.
Galbraith has an amazing voice, the range of music he sings is diverse and unusual for someone his age. As well as singing popular classics including, I'll be There and Angels, Galbraith also performs traditional Irish folk songs such as Danny Boy.
Galbraith first began performing at the age of seven when he appeared in a local play. After realizing he had a talent for singing, he began entering talent contests and won 15 competitions.
Soon after, major recording companies were soon knocking at his door and at the age of 9 he signed his first record contract for £1 million. His first album, Declan, a collection of Irish traditional songs became a big success.
In 2003, Galbraith even helped to break the world record for the most people taking part in a sing-along. He sang Tell Me Why live with 10,000 children and was also simultaneously linked, by radio and satellite, with more than 80,000 children in their schools all over Britain.
At present he is just enjoying the moment because he knows that it will not last forever. "I just feel privileged to have been given the opportunity", he says. "My greatest wish is simply to make music that people enjoy."

Standing together
LAST Monday afternoon, China stood still. Heads bowed, hats in hands, soldiers balanced on the rubble of a town destroyed by an earthquake. Across the country, the 1.3 billion people stopped at 2:28 pm — the exact time the 8.0 Richter scale earthquake took place two weeks ago. Three minutes of silence were kept to mourn for those who died in the quake. As many as 55,740 people were confirmed dead and 24,960 people were missing by last Friday.
It is the first time that China has mourned its ordinary citizens. The last period of national mourning was for Chairman Mao Zedong in 1976 when he passed away.
As the loudspeaker announced the end of the silence on May 19, people in Tian’anmen Square rushed to the flagpole , pouring out their feelings. There were roars of "Go China", "Long live China!" and "Stay strong, China!"
For three days, flags across China were lowered to half-mast. Bars, clubs and cinemas were closed. Even the Olympic torch relay was suspended .
The earthquake caused the destruction that has been described as the worst in more than half a century in the country. It has brought together people from across the country to offer help. Volunteers flood to earthquake-hit areas. Long queues of people waited to donate money and blood for helping the victims in the past two weeks. The nation received 24.65 billion yuan in cash and goods from donors at home and abroad as of last Friday, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs .
Since last week, many students from the earthquake-hit areas have returned to classes in tents, which were quickly established by rescue workers. According to the Ministry of Education, the college entrance examination will be put off for affected students, with the English listening test canceled. Also, there will be special psychological treatment from experts to help students deal with their tragic memories and to be strong and healthy for the coming bright future.

Isle of Wight is a wonderful place to go to. Situated of the south coast of England the Isle of Wight is a beauty to behold. With record sunshine levels, sandy beaches, traditional English countryside and quaint thatched villages it is no wonder that the island has been attracting tourists since Victorian times.
The difficult thing for us is about the hotel, but now you don't need to worry about it, I will introduce a Isle of Wight Hotel to you, they were honoured to be voted the winner of best hotel by the Isle of Wight Tourism Industry Association in 2003. So trust they, it is a nice hotel, it will be thought to your house. It is so kindness.

Table Manners and Hygiene
I started thinking about this issue at my brother-in-law's 60th birthday party last Saturday. Before we ate the main meal we sat around a table that was loaded with large bowls of snack items - chocolate-covered peanuts, munchies, cherries, and a few other things. The eater had to reach into the bowl and grab a handful of snacks and then convey them to the mouth with the other hand. A lot of people were strangers to me and I observed a cat being carried around, a dog being petted, and a number of noses being rubbed, between eating handfuls of snacks. Ughh!!
I started thinking about Chinese table manners. My wife and I will share things from the same plate or cup but we always put serving spoons out with the dishes on the table. Often we don't use them though. In my family we use our personal chopsticks to take food from the serving dishes. But we are careful and only touch food we will eat ourselves.
I've heard of some people who use two sets of chopsticks, one for eating, and one for serving. I've also seen some people who invert their chopsticks, and serve other people with the ends that haven't touched their lips.
Any comments?
